About the Personal Project

01

Is it REQUIRED or optional?

03

Can they still participate in graduation if my child doesn't do the PP?

The Personal Project (PP) is required component of the 10th grade IB Middle Years' Curriculum. It actually has always been a requirement. We are improving our implementation with fidelity as much as possible.

This year the 10th grade English teachers will support students' writing of the report portion of the PP.

  • 10th grade KAP teachers conduct the Personal Project  (PP) lessons

  • Support Hub library & after school/lunch on dedicated days

  • Increasing parental awareness &  support

  • Optional professional feedback on students' projects

  • Optional participation Ideas without Borders - an International Virtual Exchange with Hiroshima Global Academy 10th Grade students to increase global understanding of how PP impacts students beyond Hawai'i

  • 10th grade English teachers who will be supporting students' writing or revision skills

  • Kaiser HS faculty will be trained to assess predicted grades of all projects before submitting to IB for final scores

  • Last, 10th graders will present exhibition-style, their project to 9th graders to inspire them for their PP ideas in Feb.

The MYP Personal Project is not a requirement to participate in commencement; however, part of the PP's written report counts toward  evidence toward 10th grade English Common Core Standards. Earning a passing grade for ELA 2 is a State of HIDOE requirement to graduate and/or participate in commencement.
